Mo Yi

Born 1958 in Tibet, Chinese artist Mo Yi began his career playing professional soccer in the Chinese league. In 1990 at the age of 32 he produced his first artistic survey and exhibition entitled "The Great Wall/Great Wall Man" a collection of photography, record, and video work. This foray into the world of professional art making was followed by a three year period of self-discovery during which the artist returned to Tibet and traveled the northwestern route of the ancient Silk Road from Xian to the Great Wall by foot. Since 1994, Mo Yi has been interviewed multiple times by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), has obtained grants from People's Photography Newspaper and has exhibited installation and performance art throughout China and abroad. International exhibitions include participation in Ego (Italy), Guangzhou International Photography Biennal (China), Guangdong Art Museum (China), Between past and future - New Photography and images of China (USA/Germany), Guangzhou Contemporary Art Triennial (China), City Portrait (Japan), St. Louis University (USA), Berlin Art Museum (Germany), Smart Museum of Art, University of Chicago (USA), and the Houston Museum of Art (USA).
