Walsh Gallery is pleased to host an exhibition called “Service Station.” This show was organized by WonGi Sul (Professor at Korean National University of Arts). Mr. Sul invited three young curators to design a show of emerging artists which represent the wide range of visual language in Korea today. “Service Station” will feature 15 artists with 41 works. All artists and curators will be present at the opening.

The concept of “Service Station” is to invite the viewer to take a rest. Instead of flling up on the romantic platitudes dictated by society, one can refuel on the intimate memories and stories provided by the artists within the show. This is a distinctly personal glimpse into life in South Korea today, as seen by these young artists. “Service Station” is divided into three sections, Speaking to Silent Speech, Doing Nothing or Driving and Beta Driver. Collectively, these sub-sections convey a distinctly Korean perspective about the reality of the Korean contemporary art world. This youthful perspective is often missing from the international venues where foreigners are likely to first experience Korean art. Despite being part of the society they analyze, these artists are interested in breaking free from its boundaries and limitations. “Huegeso” means highway rest stop in Korean. This concept embodies the coexistence of opposites… the desire to, at once, belong while wanting to be free of societal constraints.
